To study at Hutt Valley High School:

Students...

  • should have studied English for at least 2 years.

  • will usually have a New Zealand based caregiver, guardian or agent.  This is additional to the host family.  This person will help the student if needed.

  • must supply their latest school report and have a letter of recommendation from their Principal.

The tuition fee covers:

  • all classroom tuition costs including English (ESOL) classes if required.

  • school administration costs

  • New Zealand taxes (GST)

  • five day school trip to OPC or the Year 13 Geography trip to Rotorua.

  • student ID and school computer/internet fees

  • government levies

  • loan of school textbooks for the year

The tuition fee does NOT cover:

  • homestay costs

  • transport costs and daily spending money - you should expect to spend about $20-40 every week.

  • school uniform

  • stationary - approximately $100-200 per year

  • entry into national qualifications (NCEA) - approximately $375 for Year 11, 12 & 13 students.

  • insurance - medical and travel

Insurance

penHealth and Travel Insurance

All international students MUST have medical insurance and travel insurance when studying in New Zealand.  The school can help you get insurance.  The cost of insurance in New Zealand is approximately NZ$450 per year.

New Zealand Health Services

Most international students will have to pay the full cost of seeing a doctor or going to hospital in New Zealand.  Full details on medical entitlements can be found at the Ministry of Health.

 

Insurance for Accidents

The New Zealand Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) provides some accident insurance for temporary visitors, but there may be medical and other costs to pay if you have an accident.  For more information go to the ACC website.
