How do I get into university?

If you are at an intermediate level of English (studied for at least 3-4 years) you will probably need two years of high school in NZ before your English is good enough for university study.
To get into university in New Zealand:
- You must pass three Y13 subjects. Many students achieve good results in the following subjects Maths (calculus), Maths (statistics), Geography (HVHS special course), Physics, Chemistry, Art, Accounting, Mandarin, Japanese, German, French.
- You must pass at least 8 NCEA credits of Y12 English (usually 3 papers). You can do these papers in either English or ESOL classes.
- You must pass Mathematics at Y11 level (or higher).
The information provided above is a simple summary of requirements. For more information, read the booklet "Secondary School Qualifications
